Choosing the best extension ladder?
My choice for the best extension ladder would be Louisville Ladder AA229GS Elite Aluminum Attic Ladder
Common parts of an extension ladder:
- The safety shoes- has pads that settle on the ground when the ladder is in use.
- Fly section- portion that extends upwards. Some ladders might have two-part fly.
- Larger ladders have the rope and pulley to help fully extend the ladder.
- Base section that remains in place when extending the ladder.
- The rung lock which is attached to the fly. Prevents the fly not to slide down due to weight.
Despite the fact that these extension ladders help us a lot in out DIY activities, you need to know that they are very dangerous. There are so many accidents reported everyday due to inappropriate use of the extension ladder.
The ladder makes contact with the ground at only two points. It is never a nice idea to use the extension ladders on a vertical or near-vertical angles. Make sure that you move the ladder away from the wall to avoid such angles.
Do not overload your ladder. Check the maximum weight your ladder can bear before using it.
Here’s the procedure on how to use your ladder:
Inspect the ladder before use. If any of the components seem or look damaged, don’t use it. Instead, use another ladder or else, postpone the task that you were supposed to accomplish.
Move and position the ladder. When moving the ladder, take caution not to hurt yourself should the fly move down. This means that you need to hold the ladder carefully.
Raise the fly section and lock the fly. By locking the fly, you prevent the fly section from disengaging which would hurt you.
Always ensure to match the work load to the ladder rating. A specific ladder should be able to bear up-to a certain load. If the maximum load of Type 1 ladder is 250 pounds, do not exceed the weight specified.
If you are using the extension ladder outdoor, climb carefully. Center your body between the rails when climbing up or down. This means that you need to avoid any works that imposes a side load. Work while facing the ladder.
Do not try moving, shifting or extending the ladder while in use. If you must shift or move the ladder, climb down and shift.
Do not sit on the ladder.
If you must use your two hands while using the ladder, use your legs to offer some more support.
Observe the weight specification of the ladder or else the ladder ratings of the extension ladder.
